The Performing Arts and Music area at Boston College is a fast growing, dynamic and creative hub.

The Performing Arts pathway is wide ranging, allowing learners to sample several performance disciplines including Movement, Principles of Acting, Devising Theatre, and Musical Theatre. This pathway provides an excellent grounding and allows opportunities to progress on to Higher Education/Drama courses.

The Music pathway provides an exciting opportunity for learners to study their own specialist instrument taking part in live performances, experimenting with composition and styles, working with other like-minded musicians to create performance pieces. With our newly developed Roland Academy you will gain the opportunity to use state of the art Roland equipment and industry standard programmes.

The College facilities include a theatre at the De Montfort Campus, and the Sam Newsom Music Centre with an auditorium, computer suite and rehearsal rooms. The Music Centre has a purpose built music technology suite. In addition there are three DJ studios equipped with turntables and sampling facilities.

The Performing Arts lecturers have a range of professional experience spanning music production, dance, drama and music theatre. Lecturers in Music Technology have extensive experience as DJs, producers and recording engineers along with a wealth of experience in the music business both as performers and producers.

Kimberley Crawley

With a passion for performing, Kimberley chose to study Performing Arts at Boston College after finishing her GCSEs at Thomas Cowley School.

“I was considering the course before I visited the College, but after meeting the lecturers and finding out more about the course I made my decision to join straight away. I enjoy everything about the course and it is great studying with people that have the same passion and interests as me.”

“The course has opened my eyes to the possibilities within the performing industry. I came to Boston College wanting to be a dancer or singer but during my time here I have realised that I have greater strengths in other areas. We have covered so many elements within both practical and theory lessons and have had the opportunity to perform in front of a different range of audience”.
