History* - units / subjects covered: Introduction to History, American History-Civil Rights, The Suffragette Movement, Power, Politics and Propaganda during the First World War, The Third Reich.
Human Biology* - units / subjects covered: Genetics, Cell Biology, Human Health and Disease, Mammalian Physiology, Nutrition and Digestion, Human Cardiac and Respiratory Systems, Reproduction, Skeleton & Muscle.
Psychology - units / subjects covered: Abnormal Psychology, Cognitive Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Conformity and Obedience, Early Social Development, Research Methods in Psychology, Understanding Stress.
Sociology - units / subjects covered: Contemporary Sex and Gender Studies, Race Relations, The Crime Problem, The Sociology of Religion, Class and Stratification.
Mathematics* - units / subjects covered: Algebra and Graphs, Binomial and Poisson Distribution, Calculus, Co-ordinate Geometry, Hypotheses and Statistical Tests, Matrices and Determinants, Probability, Pure Mathematics, Trigonometry.
Business - units / subjects covered: Types of Structure and Organisations, Introduction to Management Accounting, Marketing-Research and Strategies, Managing People and Human Resources.
English Literature* - units / subjects covered: Introduction to Literature, Appreciation of Literature, the Play and a Novel, Creative Writing, the Short Story, Play in Performance.
Law - units / subjects covered: Introduction to English Law, Human Rights, Law and Morality, An introduction to the Law of Tort, Actus Reus and Mens Rea, Introduction to Contract Law, Non-fatal Offences against the Person, Property Offences.
*At least one of these option subjects (curriculum subjects) would be required for progression into primary / secondary teaching.
Attendance on all courses: FULL-TIME: 1 year, 15 hours over 4 or 5 days per week between 9.00am and 3.00pm. PART-TIME: 2 years, 7.5 hours over 2 or 3 days per week between 9.00am and 3.00pm. ENTRY: No formal entry requirements although students will need to demonstrate enthusiasm and drive.
PRE-ACCESS COURSE
(NOCN Level 2 Diploma for Progression) This qualification is designed to provide more mature learners with the means to achieve a full level 2 qualification, in turn preparing learners for a range of level 3 courses. ATTENDANCE: 12 hours per week (2.5 days) for 28 weeks (November to June) ENTRY: No formal qualifications are required, however applicants must be able to demonstrate ‘life experience’ and show a real commitment to their studies.
