Palermo Stone
On the Palermo Stone, possibly written in the time of Niuserre, Dynasty 5, nomes appear to
play a fairly significant role as there are many entries of people, animals and farm products
being counted in the biennial cattle census (hesbet). This may be an indication of the
tributes which were gathered from the various provinces of Egypt, to be presented to the king
during various festivals.
