IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group)
has signed a management contract for its
ﬁrst Hotel Indigo in Hong Kong withTai
Hung Fai Enterprise Co. Ltd,a real estate
developer that owns over 100 properties
across Hong Kong and Macau.
The 150-guestroom hotel is set to open in
2012 and will be located inWan Chai.This
historic district in northern Hong Kong Island
is known for its traditional Chinese wedding
card and accessory shops, tea houses, and
pawn shops, all of which are juxtaposed with
new entertainment outlets, restaurants and
boutique interior design stores.
The cultural and historical elements of
this upcoming area will be reﬂected in the
design of the hotel, by Aedas Architects.The
architectural concept features a conspicuous
dragon in burnished bronze wrapped around
the building, functioning as an “eco-screen”
to counteract the hot spots and solar gain.The
design will also take account of Feng Shui
principles.
