Inspiring Innovation: With Adversity Comes Opportunity
Welcome to the 58th National Convention of
The Arc of the United States
Welcome to Pittsburgh! On behalf of The Arc of the United States, I am
pleased that you are able to join us for our national convention. Pittsburgh –
“The City of Bridges” – is a vibrant city of world class museums, fine dining to
suit every budget and a nationally renowned sports destination.
This year’s theme, “Inspiring Innovation: With Adversity Comes Opportu-
nity,” addresses the prevailing economic and service climate impacting our
C
OME
constituency. While all of us in the field of intellectual and developmental
disabilities face innumerable obstacles in this current environment, we have
collectively risen to meet these challenges by seeing them as opportunities for
WEL innovation and excellence.
The focus of this year’s gathering will be on those who have developed best
practices and demonstrated innovation across the spectrum of services, sup-
ports and research that affect people with intellectual and developmental dis-
abilities and their families. Indeed, we have much to learn from each other and
our convention offers a unique opportunity to share ideas, discover emerging
trends and network among colleagues and friends.
We are grateful to the Local Host Committee for working in concert with the
national convention committee to create an exciting and seamless convention
experience.
Finally, I thank our generous sponsors – Mutual of America, MetDesk, Parle-
rai, Ability and ACHIEVA – and all he exhibitors in the Exhibit Hall who are
sharing the innovation of their products.
I look forward to joining you in the days ahead for a convention filled with
thought provoking presentations, engaging sessions, moving testimonials, and
exciting activities.
Sincerely,
Lynne A. Cleveland
