24 LIFE
Mick Gebbitt and
his wife Pauline
own Hide All, a
leather goods and
accessories store
in Greenwich
Market
Mick: We originally started in
the market in 1986 and opened
the shop at Easter 1987. I was
working in the City and wanted
to spend more time with the
children. Pauline had
connections in the fashion
industry.
It gave me an escape from
the City.Iwas in the money
markets which was quite
pressured — many late nights
and early mornings. I wanted a
better quality of life. It allowed
us to jobshare—one could work
while the other could child mind.
You can measurethe success of
the partnership by the fact that
we ve been in business over 23
years.
Pauline: When you re running
abusiness together, you have
different functions so you re not
doing the same job all the time.
Most people who areina
business partnership say its not
easy, but for us it was a natural
thing to set up in business as a
couple.
It was always a joint
project and it wouldn t have
started otherwise and we
brought different skills to it.
