Fundraising success
Students help
out for charity

STUDENTS and staff in the floristry
department at Southwark College were
tickled pink after a special fundraising event
blossomed into a massive success.
Floristry course Team Leader Debbie Western joined her
students and donned pink clothing earlier this month to sell
bouquets of flowers and prize draw tickets on the streets
around the Waterloo campus in support of Breast Cancer
charities.
It is the second year running the department has staged
this event. More than £1,000 was raised this year, topping
last year’s final total of £700.
The group activity also served as an excellent
team-bonding exercise with first, second and third-year
students combining well together and getting to know each
other while supporting a worthwhile cause.
Dawn Francis began her studies at Southwark College in
September. The 35-year-old, who is studying for a NPTC
Level 2 Diploma in Floristry, said: “To be involved in this so
early in my course was absolutely brilliant.
“I was making bouquets for a purpose. We all knew what
we made in class was going to be sold with the money going
to charity. On a personal level, I had a family member who
suffered from breast cancer so it meant a lot to me to be
