and landscape to make sketches and
drawings as studies for his etchings and
engravings. These were shown and sold at
his individual exhibitions in Antwerp. Later
Freddy started bringing some of these
etchings and engravings to Scotland when
he came on holiday, and was very pleasantly
surprised at the demand from the galleries
throughout Scotland to whom he showed
his work. Since 1986 he has stayed in
Scotland for one to two months each year,
making drawings which he later works up to
finished etchings and engravings on his
return to his studio in Antwerp. These are
brought with him to Scotland the following
year, and in this manner Freddy has built up
a portfolio of 280 Scottish etchings and
engravings out of his total portfolio of 475
works. Freddy has tended to concentrate on
those areas that inspire him and where he
has received support and encouragement,
and the majority of his Scottish work
includes landscapes and architectural
studies from Inverness, Skye, Orkney and
Edinburgh. As well as being in the
collections of various towns, cities and the
Belgian State, Freddy’s etchings and
engravings have been purchased for the
collections of the Art Galleries & Museums
