helped raise £11,000 for the Gorilla
Organisation by participating in the
Great Gorilla Run 2009 in September
in London.
Around 600 participants, 60 of which
were the Go Ape Tribe, ran around
the streets of London in their gorilla
suits. The Go Ape Tribe was gathered
from across the country by all Go
Ape courses, including the one in
Margam.

Robert Bermingham and Richard Robinson
Brangwyn
sheds a
bit of light
Two artists – Robert Bermingham and Richard
Robinson – completed a unique project called the
British Empire Panel Project in October to coincide
with the Swansea Festival of Music and the Arts.
They have transformed the entrance windows of
Brangwyn Hall into a giant kaleidoscope of light
and colour, visible both inside and out, day and
night, which evokes the energy and life of Sir
Frank Brangwyn’s panels held within.
“The Brangwyn panels are a hidden treasure
in Swansea and we hope that our artwork will
encourage the public to see his work. Swansea
is very privileged to have them and it has been
inspiring to create a response to these magnificent
panels,” Richard said.
Machynys tees off
As the nation gears up for the Ryder Cup, just a mere 12
months away, a new £750,000 state-of-the-art Golf Academy
opened its doors to the public at Machynys Golf Club and
Spa, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire.
The facility includes a hi-spec public golf range, which
includes the UK’s biggest indoor putting green, 21 floodlit
bays and a 380-yard driving range outfield incorporating
three full-size USGA-spec target greens, the only real grass
target greens to be found anywhere. A custom fitting and
coaching suite is also featured on site.
As part of the celebrations, British Lion Stephen Jones and
ex-Lion Derek Quinnell led a star-studded field – which
included Swansea and Llanelli footballers – in a drive
competition against those from Sports Council for Wales,
Ryder Cup Wales, Golf Union of Wales and Golf Development
