I make a point of establishing private jokes
with people. Yeah, sure, it can be a little
bitchy high school girl at times, but if
you can have a bit of meaningful eye
contact across a room, and a laugh to
go with it, it is worth it. Sometimes, it
even makes me snort when I chuckle.
I embarrass my kids, deliberately, and dis-
tract them from their crying and whing-
ing by doing stupid things up the
street ... like saying “If you keep that
crying up I’ll throw a tantrum here in the
middle of the street”. Then following it
up.
