The Architecture and Design Council of the Palm Springs Art Museum will present Jim
Jennings, the renowned San Francisco architect, as the first guest lecturer of their 2009-2010
Lecture Series. Jennings will kick off the annual lecture series on Saturday, October 24
at 5:30 p.m. at the Annenberg Theatre.
In 2008, the American Academy of Arts and Letters honored Jim Jennings’s three
decades of practice with its Academy Award for Architecture. Jennings is known for an
unwavering sensibility; one critic described him as “the quintessential Bay Area Modernist”
for the coolly sensuous rigor of his work. His projects have been internationally published and
widely exhibited. A jury assembled by the Wall Street Journal in December named Jennings’s
Visiting Artists House, an artists-in-residence facility in northern California, one of the “five
most influential and inspiring houses of the past decade.”
The Architecture & Design Council, the largest and fastest growing council of the Palm
Springs Art Museum, is comprised of trendsetting tastemakers, arbiters of architecture and
design, and noted professionals. The annual ADC Lecture Series presents a dynamic,

DESERTARC ANNOUNCES GRAND OPENING
OF RETAIL STORE IN PALM DESERT
Bucking the trend, DesertArc is opening a new retail store outlet in Palm Desert. The store
will feature fashionable clothing items that are produced by staff and clients of DesertArc, a
nonprofit agency that serves 550 people with developmental disabilities. A grand opening will
on October 8. The store is located at 77-682 Country Club Drive, Suite C, just northwest of
Washington Street.
Richard Sells, Director of Business Operations, is excited about the opportunity to
showcase new business lines that are offered by the organization for sale to the general
public. “We have taken the next step in expanding our business lines by opening this
retail outlet. New lines include apparel for school, team uniforms and medical scrubs. While
we produce the clothing for sale, the garment manufacturers include popular names such as
Cherokee, Landau and Urbane. There is also a fantastic collection of men’s and women’s
apparel, tee shirts to polo shirts, and hats to golf towels. And our prices can’t be beat. We can
embroider or screen print any item.”
