Unkept Promises

What a long day!

Vijay looked at the calendar on the wall.

It was December 15 already. How time flies.

Maybe not fast enough, thought Vijay as he playfully twirled the bed sheet and
pillow. It was starting to turn yellow. Quite disgusting thought Vijay.

Must remember to get someone from housekeeping to change to fresh ones.

Vijay picked up a book from the small table next to the bed.

It was JD Salinger’s ‘The Catcher in the Rye’. Must have read it a few hundred
times mused Vijay.

Must remember to ask Pak Ishak for some new books when he comes around
next.

Perhaps I could get some Orwell or Stephen King titles.

Vijay began to brighten up a little as he thought of the other books he could get
his hands on.

Wonder what’s for lunch today? Hope we get some nice chicken dishes today,
though Vijay. He suddenly thought of Amma’s cooking. Yum! He loved that
chicken curry she makes at home. How he wished he could get a taste of it
today. Today. Yesterday. Tomorrow. Everyday. Give me Amma’s chicken curry
any day wished Vijay. His eyes begin to glaze.

He suddenly realized that that would tough.

Maybe when she comes to visit. If she comes.

She used to visit regularly.

Ever since Muthu turned nineteen, her visits were becoming irregular. Wonder
how he was doing that little rascal. Big rascal now.

I sure miss the good times. I was too caught up in my work, thought Vijay. Should
have spent more time with them, especially with Muthu..
