Recession-beating advice
for horse owners
Horse owners can call the SPILLERS® Care-Line free of charge.
Staffed by a team of nutrition advisers the care-line is said to provide
sound, practical, nutrition advice for every type of horse or pony. It
solves feeding queries for hundreds of grateful horse owners around
the UK, every week.
SPILLERS manufactures the biggest selection of horse feeds in the
country and has a product to suit whatever your horse’s age, level of
activity or management regime. Care-Line advisors will help you take
into account your horse’s type, workload, condition, age, and general
character to tailor-make the perfect diet for him or her and your
budget! You can also use the service throughout the year to ensure
your chosen diet remains just right, even when workload or grazing
change.
One of the company’s care-line advisors Kate Redley explains, ‘we
receive all sorts of queries – from owners worrying about keeping
weight on their veteran pony, to vets requesting a specific diet for a
patient. We send out a diet plan to each enquirer as well as product
information, and even a sample of the feed if needed’.

Trelawne Equine is a new company
formed in 2009 to become the new
distributors of the Easycare range of hoof
boots in the UK.
The Easycare range, which includes the new Glove as well
as established brands such as the Boa and Old Mac’s
multipurpose horse boot, is the market leader in the UK. The
modern hoof boot has come along way from the original
Easyboot designed by Dr Neel Glass 30 years ago, and have
proven themselves in many countries and disciplines, including
some of the toughest endurance rides around the world.
Farriers are in the perfect position to be able to advise their
clients if a hoof boot will be right for their horse, and are best
qualified to help with selection and fitting if needed. Booting is
the ideal solution for a horse with weak horn, badly chipped or
cracked feet, slow growth, abscess, white line disease or any
other problem that means the horse either cannot be shod or
ideally needs to be rested from shoes. Often a horse has poor
feet that could do with having a break from shoes but the rider
doesn't want to rest the horse without shoes as they want to
continue riding. Hoof boots allow the horse to continue working
whilst resting the hooves, giving quality horn for the farrier to
work with when shoes are reapplied. Ensuring your client has
a hoof boot or two in their tack room is also a good way of
reducing emergency call outs to replace lost shoes between
sets, and ensures the hoof is not further damaged by being left
bare.
