STAFF WRITTER – The Ontario Construction Report Special Feature
Ken Burns, Vice President of Giffels Corporation, (an
Ingenium Group Company) recalls a conversation he had
in April 2004 with Bob Hunter from Maple Leaf Sports
and Entertainment (MLSE). Hunter suggested he call
Brian Hoskins of Lakeshore Lions to see if progress could
be made on a four- pad community hockey arena.
The Maple Leafs for years had used the existing
Lakeshore Lions arena as a practice facility, but both the
Lions and Leafs had visions for something much bigger.
Burns, however, said he didn’t realize how big the project
would eventually become, as more partners joined, turning
it into a mammoth $38 complex with corporate sponsor-
ship from MasterCard.
