BIGGEST CHANGES COME IN SMAll PACKAGES by natalIE rohwEr
A
s I walked though the door of harry’s pacific grill last month, hostess brittany Segrest’s heavy,
white-framed glasses immediately caught my eye. “Cool glasses,” I remarked as she ushered me
over to the patron-packed lounge and pointed to an open seat at the bar. “Yeah, it’s a change from
black,” she replied, explaining how she always tries to be a little different and set herself apart from the
crowd….And that’s just for starters! In between hostessing at Harry’s and singing at some local wineries, this
“dare-to-be-different” diva moonlights as a disney princess. I wonder if she ever loans out her costume?....!
Seated at the bar, cindy wyckoff of temecula was hard at work giving me the latest low down on the
local Happy Hour scene. Apparently, Cindy likes to change things up every now and again, enjoying the
melting pot in Temecula and d’canter’s in Murrieta (that has “the best Cuban sandwich in the world!”)
in between her weekly pilgrimages to Harry’s. For live music, Wyckoff recommends anthony’s ristorante
in Murrieta on Tuesdays for their Jazz, Swing & Jam night.
Speaking of pilgrimages….John asher and lee henderson, both from Temecula, are no strangers to
change themselves, having each relocated from San antonio, texas and hawaii, respectively. Apparently
John moved west recently for a great job opportunity while newly single Lee was tired of having to fly all the
way to oahu for a dress shirt! So he called it quits, trading in the “country” island living for the convenience
of shopping on the Mainland…and the promenade mall.
Chillin and checkin’ his texts in a nearby booth was raymond fagan of temecula, a New York
transplant who could definitely relate. Turns out the Brooklyn native had recently left the Big Apple—and
various executive jobs—for a new career in Temecula as a pharmaceutical engineer.
Not to be outdone by a career change was kris battista of murrieta, who recently became the proud
owner of a new self-serve yogurt shop off Los Alamos and the 215 fwy called froyoland. Her girlfriends
Sylvia and rosie Sevillano of lima, peru, love the fact that Kris changes yogurt flavors every week,
but when it comes to big moves, these girls are hard to top! They didn’t just change cities…they changed
countries—but they’ve already found a home away from home in Old Town called the 7 mares bar and
grill where the two go salsa and meringue dancing regularly.
The Peruvian gal pals weren’t the only ones with music on their minds. rich dowdall of menifee
joked that he was considering changing his career to “professional groupie” for great bands in town like
the bluefish…. According to Rich, the duet is the best two-man band in town and can be found frequently
playing at crivello’s in Murrieta.
Sometimes, it’s the little things in life that can bring about the biggest change. Just ask bill and donna
phillips of menifee who are preparing for two new additions to their family: a white Labrador puppy and
a new grandbaby…in Pennsylvania!
Finally, it seems a change is in store for this reporter, too. Starting next month, we’re moving Happy
Hour to the yardhouse in Temecula—I’m going to miss you, Harry’s! But I’ll be
back….If not for Happy Hour, then for your infamous Sunday Brunch—complete
with all you can drink mimosas and bloody marys! And that’s The Scoop!
Join me, Natalie Rohwer, on Thursday, october 15 at 5:30pm at
the Yardhouse in Temecula (40770 Winchester Rd., Suite 750 -
The Promenade) and give me THE scooP on you!
