Despite some doubts about its long term future earlier in the year, it’s fantastic to
see that the future of professional rallying in the UK has been secured for the next
few years. Not only does Wales get the opportunity to host the UK’s leading rally
event, it is also the last in the 2009 season which means there’s every chance it

will be the key one in deciding the final places. That finale is certain to feature
2008 champion Frenchman Sebastien Loeb, who has been to rallying in recent

years what Michael Schumacher was to Formula One a decade ago.
As for the event itself, the ceremonial start will take place outside the Millennium

Centre at 7pm on Thurs 22 Oct, with the podium finish at the same spot on Sun
25 at 2.30pm. Both events are free and will offer chances to meet the key par-

ticipants in this great event, including Loeb himself. The Rally proper begins at
9.25am on Fri 23 near Llanidloes in mid-Wales, with a further five stages in the
area through to the afternoon. Next day, it’s an earlier start at 8.30 for the first of

six more stages in the Rhondda. Finally, on Sunday everyone heads south to Port
Talbot and Rheola and the spectacular shakedown at Margam Park – not to be
