Elvis Mitchell
Films often have a profound influence on people’s lives, and nobody knows
that more than Elvis Mitchell, one of the country’s top reviewers. The former
film critic for The New York Times, he has been featured on NPR’s Weekend
Edition since 1985, and is the host of Turner Classic Movie’s Elvis Mitchell:
Under the Influence. On the show he brings his in-depth and personal
interview style to conversations with guests including Bill Murray, the late
Sydney Pollack, Quentin Tarantino and more. The AIFF will screen his
documentary films Black List: Volume One and Volume Two (p23).
In honor of his independent spirit Elvis Mitchell will receive the ashland
ro
independent film festival Rogue Award at the Awards Celebration, Sunday,
April 5 (p9). gue a
“I don't think it's my job to tell someone what he or she should see or not see. But
the best criticism works as something that you use after you've seen a movie. It
doesn't tell you what to think. It should help you understand what the movie is
trying to do and maybe give you some insight into the critic as well...” Elvis Mitchell
