SNOW PRINCE KINJIRARETA KOI NO MELODY
NORTH AMERICAN PREMIERE
10-year-old Sota lives with his grandfather and a dog named Chibi in a small snowy
village. They live in such poverty that Sota cannot even afford to go to school, but as
rough as their situation is, Sota never holds a grudge against anyone and keeps close
to his heart the dream of one day becoming a painter. Sayo, a girl from a wealthy fam-
ily, has been his best friend since they were little, despite the difference of their fami-
ly’s social position and the disapproval of her father. In spite of the difficulties he
faces, Sota manages to complete a painting which he wishes to give Sayo. Both he
and his faithful companion Chibi traverse down a snowy night path to Sayo’s house
only to find that her father’s storage is on fire. The final outcome that awaits Sota and
Chibi is a gentle reminder that genuine happiness always exists in your heart.

ANTIQUE
HAWAII PREMIERE
Treat yourself to a film that will satisfy your sweet tooth! Director Min Gyoo-dong
(MEMEMTO MORI) follows a recipe consisting of one part quirky comedy, one part sus-
penseful mystery, and a sprinkling of imaginative musical numbers, to create a visually
delicious adaptation of the bestselling Japanese manga, Antique Bakery. Previously a
TV drama and anime in Japan, this Korean interpretation stars heartthrob Joo Ji-hoon
(PRINCESS HOURS, HIFF 2008) as the pampered and overprotected Jin-hyuk, who curi-
ously opens a small neighborhood cake shop named Antique despite his violent dislike
of desserts. The success of the shop depends in large part on Sun-woo (Kim Jae-wook),
a charismatic genius pastry chef who once had an unrequited crush on Jin-hyuk in high
school. Their efforts are helped by an ex-boxer apprentice
with a passion for pastry and Jin-hyuk’s silent and
bumbling childhood friend who fancies himself a
bodyguard and assistant. – Valerie Kato
