BATTLE LEAGUE HORUMO
HAWAII PREMIERE
Based on the best-selling fantasy novel, Kamogawa Horumo (written by Manabu
Makime), the live-action BATTLE LEAGUE HORUMO takes audiences on a wild adven-
ture that blends the breathtaking backdrop of Kyoto with the bizarre legend of
“Horumo.” University student, Akira Abe and a friend meet a senior who invites them to
a welcome party hosted by his club called the Azure Dragon and shortly joins in hopes
of winning the affections of one of the members. At first, the club appears to be an ordi-
nary social group, but the new members soon discover the mysterious 1000 year-old tra-
dition of the “Horumo” battle upheld by the four universities of Kyoto. The battle is
fought between 10 players from each team who each manipulate an army of 100 spirits
(referred to as Oni) to fight their opponents. The members each go through rigorous
training to achieve fluency in the Oni language as well as learn the
indefinable gestures that are required to
complement it. Let the battles begin!

FLAVOR OF HAPPINESS SHIAWASE NO KAORI
HAWAII PREMIERE
A local department store decides to approach Wan (Tatsuya Fuji) about opening an in-
store branch – and dispatches Takako (Miki Nakatani), a pretty, thirtysomething staffer.
Takako is determined to close the deal but Wan gives her the brush-off. Undiscouraged,
she comes back to the restaurant every day, tastes everything on the menu and loves it,
but Wan refuses to listen to her proposal. When Wan collapses with a minor stroke that
leaves him unable to work. Takako begs him to take her on as an apprentice, so that his
cooking will live on. Wan, who has no wife or heir, agrees. He sees Takako not just as a
successor but as a kindred spirit whose love for good food approaches his own. This is
not the happy ending, however, but the start of grueling trials that test
Takako's mettle and resolve, if not her
affection for Wan. Most of them, as you
might expect, involve food. – Mark Schilling
