DELHI-6
HAWAII PREMIERE
DELHI-6 is a story of a young American boy of Indian origin, Roshan, comes to India
for the first time, to drop off his ailing grandmother, Dadi. She wants to retire and
spend the last leg of her life back home; dissolving into the soil she was born in. In
America, having led a very western lifestyle Roshan is not familiar with the sites and
smells, the food and culture, the religion and beliefs, this huge melting pot that is
India. He thought that Dadi had left her family and loved ones back in America, only to
realize how wrong he was. The warmth and affection of the neighborhood embraced
him with open arms. Amidst all this he meets the beautiful Bittu, who is looking for
identity and expression and wants to break free from the
typical Indian social structure, to whom Roshan is
destined to lose his heart.

THE JAPANESE WIFE
U.S. PREMIERE
This is a haunting but improbable love story involving three shy people: Snehamoy
Chatterjee, an Arithmetic teacher in the interiors of West Bengal; Miyage, the Japanese
girl who became his wife through a strange sequence of letters; and Sandhya, a widow
forced by circumstances to take refuge in Snehamoy’s home. The tale begins when
Snehamoy and Miyage become pen pals writing letters back and forth in broken English,
forming a special bond. Eventually, the two decide to marry even though they have never
met each other. After 15 years of an intimate yet physically absent marriage, Sandyha,
an old family friend, arrives at Snehamoy’s door as a widow with her 8-year old son. She
immediately begins to take over the household, and with her, Snehamoy discovers a
bond of domesticity. The shy school teacher is caught between the pull of his marriage –
a long standing intimacy devoid of home life – and another undefined relationship that
offers a comforting domesticity without any possibility of intimacy –
thus becoming an unwitting partner to two solitary women.
