WHEAT MAI TIAN
HAWAII PREMIERE
In LuYi, a minor city of Zhao, the city Lord bids farewell to his beautiful new bride,
Li (Fan Bingbing), and leads his men into combat against the Qin state. With the men
away at war, it falls to the women to sustain the city, a task that includes harvesting
the wheat crop. Meanwhile two soldiers from Qin, weary of the horrors of war aban-
don their posts. While trying to escape, they are swept away in a river and are found
by the women of Zhao, who are faced with a very special and intimate battle. Should
they imprison these strange men, who seem to have fallen from the sky to awaken
their senses and bring back memories of happiness? Though the women are percep-
tive, sometimes even the wisest thoughts can be blurred by the desire for a different
life. Directed with warmth by He Ping, the film glows with a timeless beauty through
which we come to understand the serenity the
characters seek, and the pointlessness of the
violence they left behind.

RED RIVER / WARRIOR AND THE WOLF
REEL LIFE
9500 LIBERTY
HAWAII PREMIERE
9500 LIBERTY documents an explosive battle over immigration policy in Prince William
County, Virginia. This county’s government passes a resolution allowing police to stop
and demand US identification from anyone they have "probable cause" to suspect is an
undocumented immigrant. The devastating social and economic impact of this
Immigration Resolution is felt in the lives of the local people and eventually this drives
the citizens to form a resistance. While 9500 LIBERTY only covers the immigration bat-
tle in Prince William County, it will resonate with people from all over the nation. The
issue of illegal immigrants has become one of the most divisive topics over the past
years and this movie exposes the dangers of just pushing illegal immigrants out.
Directed by Eric Byler and first time director, Annabel Park, this documentary will grab
you whichever side of the argument you find yourself on. – Barbara Bumatay
