LOVE EXPOSURE AI NO MUKIDASHI
HAWAII PREMIERE
Kind-hearted Yu has no choice. His father, a Catholic priest, is urging him to confess,
but in order to confess he must sin, and the only sin his cynical father recognizes as
such is sexual perversion. So Yu becomes the King of Tokyo’s photo voyeurs – until he
meets the Maria of his religious fantasies in the form of schoolgirl Yoko. However, not
only does she turn out to be a man-hating rebel, she’s also the stepdaughter of the
priest’s lover, and later on she is used as bait by an unscrupulous sect that wants to
ensnare the desperate Yu. Savage, overwhelming, baroque and opulent, in LOVE
EXPOSURE, Sono composes the extremes of human behavior into an ecstatic passion
choreographed to religious music, the Bolero,
the funeral march and the Japanese band
Yura Yura Teikoku’s music.

MERANTAU
HAWAII PREMIERE
In Minangkabau, West Sumatera, Yuda a skilled practitioner of Silat Harimau is in the
final preparations to begin his "Merantau," a century's old rites-of-passage to be car-
ried out by the community's young men that will see him leave the comforts of his
idyllic farming village and make a name for himself in the bustling city of Jakarta.
After a series of setbacks leave Yuda homeless and uncertain about his new future, a
chance encounter results in him defending the orphaned Astri from becoming the lat-
est victim of a European human trafficking ring led by the wildly psychotic Ratger and
his right-hand man Lars. With Ratger injured in the melee and seeking both his "mer-
chandise" and bloody retribution, Yuda's introduction to this bustling city is a baptism
of fire as he is forced to go on the run with Astri and her younger brother Adit. With
escape seemingly beyond their grasp, Yuda has no choice but to face his attackers in
an adrenaline charged, jaw-dropping finale.

ONG BAK 2
HAWAII PREMIERE
Warning: ONG BAK 2 will kick your face off! Tony Jaa, the greatest thing to happen
to martial arts movies since sliced head, returns in another kick-ass, bone-crunching,
stuntman-crippling, Thai martial arts movie. Jaa plays a man adopted by the multi-
cultural band of pirates who freed him from slavery as a child (after he wins a boy vs.
crocodile pit fight) and then spent the next decade teaching him martial arts from
around the globe. He'll need them in the 18th century Thailand of ONG BAK 2, which
appears to have been populated with people who belong beyond Thunderdome, rather
than in one of those palaces from THE KING AND I. Although ONG BAK 2 is not a
direct sequel to ONG BAK, the movie that launched Jaa to international stardom, it
shares its breathtaking stunts, brutal fight choreography, and cruel bad guys. Per
usual, rope work and CGI are kept to a minimum, the fights scenes are hard-hitting,
and the action is non-stop. – Sat K. Freedman
