On Sunday was Brutally Frank (psychobilly from
Joplin), Bleachbloods, Mad Macka made a repeat
performance, and Adam Lee and the Dead Horse
Sound Company.
As always, the Punk Rods gave away one-of-
a-kind hand-made from cool old junk trophys for
the most impressive of the hundreds of cars,
trucks, motorcycles, and bicycles present. The
“Jawdropper” (8 and a half feet tall and heavy!)
award went to "Yogi’s Model A Ford hot rod built in
1953! It has a straight six flathead with duals, a two
speed rear end, airplane speedo, and dual master
cylinders (in 53!). Kyle Moody got the "Exhausted"
award for the neat pipes on his unique rice burnin’
hardtail. The "Kustom King" award went to a 1955
dodge. Best “Longroof” went to a 1961Chrysler
Newport wagon. A “Oddball Powerplant” award
was given to Bob Turnbull’s Deitz (air cooled)
diesel powered hotrod. The "Out of This World"
award went to Joe Pace’s "Insani-T". The
“Lowrider” award went to a 1949 Chevy pick up
truck. The "Wierdo" award went to Radical Rays
Crosley powered lawnmower. . .and that’s just a
few! Altogether almost thirty handmade awards
were given out!
To sum it all up, this is still my favorite car show
of the season, and it just seems to get bigger and
better every year. The Punk Rods do a great job of
putting this thing together, and local hot rod
builders do a great job of showing up each year
with new stuff. So if you have not been out to this
show before, mark your calendar for next year and
make sure you go! And if you made it out this year,
well I’m pretty sure I’ll see ya there next time.
