June of 2009 has come and gone. With it, the Biggest
and Baddest TEN day Biker Rally in the USA. Yes folks, I
am talking about Bike Week Oklahoma, at Sparks Amer-
ica Campgrounds.
Nine years ago Tony, Miss Maggie, and their family
opened up their 130 acre backyard to the world. Now
it's still the same 130 acres, but with 200 RV hookups,
four large camping areas for those that enjoy sleeping
under the stars in tents, five acres of parking, two ponds
for cooling off, and of course 70 plus vendors with every-
thing from food to just about anything a biker could want.
There is a new EMT building on site staffed with para-
medics 24 hours a day. Has anyone mentioned the new
tattoo shop, hot showers, new pizza shop, Margarita
Mo's or much more? Let us not forget the new "Miss
Maggie's", an all new cedar log Bar which all of the logs
and cedar wood was milled on site by Gerald Monroe, a
long time friend and neighbor of Tony Ward. This
uniquely constructed bar is an amazing work of art, you
have to see it to believe it. Top that off with $1.00 Bud,
Bud Light, Miller Lite, Coors, Coors Light, and more. That
alone makes it worth the trip.
There were eleven nights of awesome entertain-
ment, the stage was set by such artists as Buddy Whit-
tington, Dr. Hook featuring Ray Sawyer, Geneva the band,
Fran Cosmo (former lead singer of Boston), and Pat Tra-
vers just to name a few. The first weekend started with
our usual $20,000 Poker Run, bike games, and the usual
or not so usual people games. The weather was great, a
little hot for some, but just right for others. The week con-
tinued to build, as bikers came in from all 50 states and
11 other countries, including my friend Louie from New
Zealand. By the second weekend, there was not a lot of
extra room to wiggle but everyone seemed to be having
a great time.
The days would start around 10 am with bike and
people games continuing throughout the day. There is
no way to get bored here. Every night followed a full day
of entertainment and a full night of awesome music,
stage shows, and a few guitars around the fire pit till
dawn. The MMA Fights with all of the special guests such
as Chuck Liddell, Jamie Varner, Ryan Bader, CB Dollaway
and a super line up of fighters made for a grand event.
The Sparks America staff worked around the clock to
make sure that when you awoke every morning it looked
as if it was the first morning. Top all of this off with a full
service shop for your scoot, including tire repair, oil
changes, and all major and minor bike repairs. Yes, they
can even work on your truck, trailer, or your RV.
To sum it all up there were thousands of bikers and
biker enthusiasts that attended this year's Bike Week
Oklahoma. I visited with many of them and the answer
was always the same," We are having one helluvah time
and YES we will be back again." A little more worn and
tattered than usual, I survived 11 days. I am a neighbor,
a friend, and sometimes a volunteer employee. I am a
50/50 girl; bartender, trash picker upper, crapper
checker, and shower buffer, so I can honestly say I did it
all, talked to them all, and that's no Lie! My other hat is
with Ok Save A Dog Society, I will see you at our booth in
vendor row.
Don't forget our October Halloween Biker Bash, (the
best Halloween Biker Bash in America) where us BIG
kids can act like little kids again!!! Ain't that
