Toy Man Has Back to Back Wedding
from Sturgis, SD to Richmond, KS
By Debra Wade
Mike and Chris Bergen were married on August 7, 2009. They began their journey with a small cer-
emony at the beautiful campgrounds of Mystic Hills in Deadwood SD, surrounded by friends and spec-
tators of the open road!
They returned home to Kansas City where they began to plan their second ceremony. On Saturday
September 5, 2009, during Labor Day weekend, Mike set his sites on something very unique, a dusk
wedding on his mother’s beautiful 500 acre ranch.
A cross boldly posted on top of a hill on an open prairie stood decorated in colors of the 4 directions
with the sun setting in the background, followed by a dark sky, lit by only the moonlight. A torch lit path
with family and friends lining both sides held candles. Mike led the way, dressed in authentic hand-
made Lakota Sioux with a ribbon shirt and his Billy Jack hat that has gained his popularity with the chil-
dren. He was accompanied by his mother Ma Bergen and followed by 11 groomsmen and 11
bridesmaids, side by side, to reveal the lovely bride’s journey up the hill to the path on a horse deco-
rated in feathers. Chris was wearing tan buckskin attire complete with jacket, chaps and moccasins,
with feathers flowing in the wind in her hair.
Reaching the alter they began the cleansing of the path, where the aroma of sage filled the air. They
began their vows and instead of unity candles, they picked up two cords that plugged in together and
thousands of lights revealed the cross as their unity.
With last minute blessings from the preacher, they kissed and hugged and the music began pound-
ing in the background of Green Onions(a cruising song) by Booker T and The MGS. The crowd gazed
on as they made their way, following the wedding party, all on motorcycles, to the reception hall.
Mike Bergen, being a unique person himself, was asked at one point not to stress out as this day was
for him and his bride, and not to worry about anyone else, but Mike replied with "No...this is not just my
day, this is everyone’s that is here and I want them to enjoy it as much as we are going to enjoy it". So
no questions asked, anyone who knows Mike Bergen, knows he has always been unique from his wed-
ding to his 12 years of Night Train Runs. The next will be on October the 3rd, 2009 starting at Jake’s
Place at 12001 Johnson Dr., Shawnee KS. This year, Mike is definitely not out of ideas!
Congratulation to Mike and Chris Bergen.
