the “May Massacre” incident. He eventually en-
dured more than two and a half years of captivity
and lost close to 150 pounds. During that time, he
saved numerous fellow prisoners by carrying sev-
eral of them on his back during a nightmarish,
nine-hundred mile, winter forced-march; in order
to keep them from being executed. After Korea, he
stayed in the military until Vietnam when he did a
year tour of duty and then retired. Of note, he was
awarded the Bronze Star and the Combat In-
fantryman’s Badge with Oak Leaf Cluster while
serving. Later in civilian life he would serve as the
Mayor of Peculiar, Missouri for eight years and he
currently resides in Raymore. Due to his current
health condition, Major Watson needed a special
van with wheelchair lift in order for his family to
help get him around town.
After the heartwarming presentation, the en-
tertainment kicked off as the beautiful country
singer, Krista Marie took to the stage! She enter-
tained the crowd with several of her latest hits in-
cluding “Big Rig” at which point, she had a lucky
fan “help” her. The smile on his face told the story
of how she made his day! What’s interesting to
know is that Krista owns a 2009 Harley V-Rod
Muscle in red and races ATV’s and loves motorcy-
cles! After her set, she met with fans at the KFKF
booth to sign autographs and take pictures.
As the afternoon continued, the entertainment
just kept on coming. Next Steve Holy another fa-
mous country singer took the stage and sang sev-
eral songs that included past and current hits.
What Steve didn’t know was that a surprise was in
the making. Some of the Wide Open Girls are huge
Country and Western fans and talked Ralph into
getting them on stage with Steve. Ralph talked to
Gail and once Steve started singing his hit song
“Brand New Girlfriend”, the girls ran up on stage
and started dancing with him. The “deer caught
in the headlights” look on his face said it all. But
being the true professional that he is, he didn’t
miss a beat or a note, as he stood up and sang
with the girls. It was hard to tell who was more ex-
cited, Steve or the girls as they all had smiles from
ear to ear! After his set, Steve went down to the
KFKF booth where he signed autographs and took
pictures with adoring fans.
The last event for the day came around three
o’clock when it was time for the highly anticipated
Country 94.1 KFKF, and Gail’s Harley-Davidson,
2009 Heritage Softail bike giveaway. All summer
long they had been talking about the beautiful, red
and gold bike donated by Gail’s, and signing up
