BANG THE DRUM
Welcome to
A
nd welcome to Issue 6. Reading through the contents of this issue it seems to me that
although our editorial items are as varied as ever, the overriding (but unintentional)
theme is communication. Many of the features include references to the need to work
together: Empty Homes – we need central government to work with local councils,
property owners and property professionals to get unused buildings habitable and occupied.
On Speakers Corner, we hear from Camilla Mabott whose business is communication; she is
finding that an increasing number of people want her specialist advice and experience, but then
try to avoid paying her for it – recession seems to erode business ethics!
In his regular column, Chris Hamer, The Property Ombudsman talks about touting – using
clients’ homes as marketing material – without asking them first!
Camilla Dell, a buying agent, is frustrated by the gulf between estate agents and property
finders, they need to work together!
Finally, Dani Simpson, our marketing specialist, has some good advice on what to include (and
what to leave out) in client newsletters. Agents, auctioneers, buyers, sellers, solicitors, landlords,
tenants… the whole property market
Perhaps the point is not that
revolves around communication so
can it really be that hard to get it right?
we don’t communicate, but

communicate, but we don’t think first.
We are all inundated with
communications, by TV, radio, post,
phone and most of all by email, so the key is to be selective rather than letting it all wash over.
Our newsletter Jungledrum may well be finding your inbox now and we hope you appreciate it.
If you don’t receive it, log on to
www.propertydrum.com and sign up – it’s free and we won’t
bombard you – it’s supposed to be appreciated. You can choose the topics you want to hear
about so it’s always relevant to your business. And when it comes to your own clients make sure
you keep talking too. What use is an estate agent who doesn’t keep in touch with his buyers and
sellers? How successful would an auctioneer be if he stood up at his sale, announced the lot,
then just waited? How important is it for landlords, especially those overseas, to be kept
informed of any issues with their tenants?
Whatever you don’t read though, make sure you read Propertydrum, let us know what you
like and what you don’t, send us your news, tell us your views, comment and… please,
communicate. You can contact me on:
sheila@propertydrum.com or phone 01825 733843.
