each particular variant there are three further core parts. We decided
that we needed to define more carefully what the additional necessary
block of information should be for the finance and the entrepreneurship
MBAs for example. So, therefore, we’ve undertaken a minor restructur-
ing of those programmes.
We’ve looked at other parts of the programme as well. We felt that our
first semester economics option was too micro economic based and not
sufficiently macro economic based so we made that change in 2007.
When the macro economy started to loom large in the autumn of last
year, we were already teaching that block of material. So, we managed to
fit in a broader perspective reasonably well.
We had already taken the decision to change the mix of options on
our finance MBA, introducing the ethical finance module so the debate
about shareholders’ responsibilities and bank bonuses was also already
present in the programme.
Additionally, we decided that a change to one of our core modules was
necessary. We wanted to introduce a module with greater integrative
impact across the programme. We have carried out two trials in suc-
cessive years and next year the material will go into the core as the one
common course that all the students take in the second semester. That
module is called Sustainable Decisions in Organizations.
Our aim is to expand on the experience gained when trialing the material
so that in this module, the student is living through a case. Each group
of students will be dealing with a company that’s hit problems: the last
part of the module will be done in real-time so the planning processes are
interrupted by say newspaper stories or changes in legislation and groups
