The newest research facility
on campus, the Neural and
Molecular Science Building
(NMS), opened its doors in
summer 2005. The NMS, first
known as the “Biology Wet
Lab,” stands on the corner of
Dean Keeton and Speedway.
Half of NMS’s 42 labs are oc-
cupied by the new Center for
Learning and Memory, where
researchers are studying
the molecular, cellular, and
behavioral mechanisms as-
sociated with learning and
memory. Most of the remain-
ing labs house researchers
from Molecular Genetics and
Microbiology moved recently
from the Experimental Sci-
ences Building (see related
story on back cover). Photo

The Evolving Natural Sciences Campus
Two new state-of-the-art buildings added to the Natural Sciences campus
Construction has begun on
the new Nano Science and
Technology Building (NST),
which Associate Dean Peter
Riley says will be “the most
technically specialized and
complex building we have.”
It will hold many special-
ized labs for the Center for
Nano and Molecular Science
and Technology, including
nanoparticle synthesis labs,
laser rooms, and an enor-
mous “clean room” that takes
up most of an entire floor.
The 6-story building, nestled
next to the Experimental Sci-
ences Building, is scheduled
for completion in 2006. Im-
