Heraeus Solar
Heraeus Solar is a
relatively new business
unit of the German
juggernaut, W.C. Heraeus
GmbH. Headed up by the
enigmatic Andy London,
the division has been
bucking the trends and
scaling new heights with
their silver metallization
pastes. Trevor Galbraith
spoke to London at
Intersolar North America
to find out the key to their
meteoric rise.
Can you tell me about the origins of
the Heraeus photovoltaic business unit
and the HERSOL family of products?
The PV business unit is a spinoff of thick
film. I ran the thick film business unit
for many years and we always looked
for new industries and markets to grow
with. About four years ago, we began to
look at PV and decided we could use our
innovation to gain market share. The
HeraSol Silver paste product line has
emerged from that decision. This is an
exciting industry and our growth has been
exciting. Heraeus Management saw that
growth and created a new business unit at
the end of 2008, which gave us the ability
to focus exclusively on the product line and
customer base. To date we have developed
