From the staircase hall a passage leads to the back stairs which give access to the
basement level and first and second floors. There are doors to the loggia and
pantry before the steps down leading into the nursery wing.
First Floor
The cantilevered stone stairs rise around three sides of the stair well with a door
on the half landing leading to the first floor of the nursery wing. The first floor
gallery and stairs are beneath a shallow coffered arch and at the back of the
gallery fluted Ionic columns support an entablature showing a pair of griffins
flanking an urn, a motif repeated on the other three walls of the gallery, one of
which is open to light the passage behind.
From the landing there are doors to the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom
and dressing room and a further five bedrooms and two bathroom; bedrooms 2
and 3, and 4 and 5 have connecting doors. To the North West corner a flight of
stairs rise to the second floor.
Second Floor
The rooms on the second floor are of smaller proportions with lower ceiling
heights than those on the first floor but are still generous bedrooms. There are
five bedrooms, a family bathroom and a separate WC on this floor as well as two
storage rooms which could be converted to more bedroom and bathroom
accommodation. A second staircase leads down to the first floor of the nursery
wing and the half landing access to the main staircase.
NURSERY WING
Ground Floor
In the south wing, known as the nursery wing, the breakfast room, is next door to
the large kitchen with eating area, AGA and range and walk in larder. A door from
the kitchen leads to the back hall. On the other side of the hall there is a door to the
play room with a door leading to the covered terrace on the south side of the house.
Through the play room is a large hall lined with linen cupboards to two sides, a
door to outside, door to the laundry and stairs to the first floor and attic above.
Second Floor
There is a nursery with bay window, four bedrooms and two bathrooms on this
floor as well as linen cupboards and a small utility room.
THE BASEMENT
The basement spreads beneath the main part of the house and incorporates the
wing to the north of the house, added in 1886 by Mr F. H. Norman. It is divided
into two staff flats, both of which can be self contained, as well as housing the
boiler, wine bins, a bathroom and various store rooms.
Flat one has independent access from outside at the northern end of the house
and includes a kitchen with larder, sitting room, three bedrooms and a bathroom.
Flat two also has its own access from the northern end of the house at basement
level and has a basic kitchen, sitting/dining room, bathroom and bedroom. There
is a connecting door to a series of store rooms which could be integrated into the
flat and with refurbishment could provide a further two bedrooms and a second
bathroom.
