Fit a set of wheels to a couple of long
planting boxes (window box size will do!).
Attach some 5-6ft trellis along the middle
and plant up with Runner Beans e.g.
Painted Lady and an assortment of Sweet
Peas. Grow the plants up on each side of
the trellis. Because the boxes have wheels
and are mobile they can be wheeled to
different locations at various times. For

garden you don’t want to look at from
the window or you can screen off your
neighbours view of your patio whilst you
are entertaining. In addition you will have

crossing to a central island. The garden is set within
landscaped parkland with great views over the Pennines.
The woodland garden is especially spectacular in early
summer when the displays of azaleas and rhododendron
come alive: it’s also stunning in winter due to its
nationally renowned collection of holly.

Jodrell Bank is best known for its Lovell Radio Telescope
- the awe-inspiring construction that has been probing
the depths of space since 1957. Less well known is
Jodrell Bank’s other marvel: its 35-acre arboretum. With
over 2,000 shrubs and plants and extensive trails, it’s
a terrific complement to the technology elsewhere in
the attraction, and links the two by way of its Solar
System Trail, which features planted ‘planets’ laid out to
scale. As the arboretum specialises in ornamental crab
apples it’s a riot of pink and white blossom in spring,
and the ‘Tree Planet’ exhibition in its Environmental
Discovery Centre examines how trees help sustain the
earth’s environment, putting the whole experience into
interplanetary context.
