It has been a remarkable few years for Morris,
winning the most important battle of all against
cancer and then confi rming a growing reputation
by handling the very different crises of Mumbai and
Pietersen with honesty and integrity.
“Something like the England captaincy is a really,
really important issue, that was a diffi cult time
but the important thing is that people have put it
behind them,” he said.
“Now we are in a pretty good position. I regularly
review to see how we could have done things
better, but hopefully we are not in situations like
that too often.
“All roads have been leading to the Ashes. Then
much of my time has been focussed on the four
years starting next year, because that is the time
of the TV contract and we can plan a reasonable
amount of things.”
With the Cardiff Test and the Ashes Series victory
fresh in the memories, Morris is planning ahead.
Whether facing Marshall and Ambrose or the press
pack, it is all just a challenging part of the job, but

step.
