Q AND As
PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF
I’m Chook, aka Philippe Schirrer, from Luxembourg. I started DJing in 1995 and being into hip
hop at the time I mainly focused on the development of scratching techniques. I then got into
mixing D&B around 1997. In 2002 I started making tunes and after a few months fiddling around,
I decided to do a sound engineering course in London. At the same time I started up our label Full
Force Recordings together with my partner DJ Radic.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND?
I guess you could pigeonhole my sound as neurofunk. Deep, with a good dose of funk. I invest a lot
of time getting a clean, big sound out of my productions.
WHAT INSPIRES YOUR MUSIC?
I’d say my productions are very much inspired from old Cause4Concern, Matrix, Ed Rush & Optical
and BC - all the stuff that came out between 1999 and 2003. After that period it seems to me that
the funk somewhat got lost. I’m trying to revive it but with the technical abilities of nowadays.
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?
I just finished a collaboration with Phace that will come out on Full Force at the end of summer. I’m
also working on two remixes for Aquqtek, a producer from the States. One of them will be on Full
Force, the other one is for Ruse Records. I might also remix ‘Lose Control’ by Rregula and Dementia
for the German imprint Basswerk.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE COMING OUT SOON?
‘Shadowland XL’ and ‘Retrograde’ just came out on Full Force and Cern - ‘Tense Passed’ (Chook
remix) will be out on Syndrome Audio soon.
WHAT ARE YOUR AMBITIONS?
In the long term I want to work more on other genres of music. I just finished doing a soundtrack
for a short movie called ‘The Vault’ and I’m working on another one now. I’m also working on
some minimal techno projects.

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF
I’m Basher from Ram and Frequency Recordings and I’ve lived in west London all my
life. I got into producing as a natural progression from DJing – I’ve been at it about five
years but DJing for 14 years.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR
SOUND?
I’d say most of the time I make
middle ground drum & bass
- not too jump-up, not too
dark. I like to just think of it as
PEYO
dancefloor.

computer in 2001, but I really started producing seriously around 2004. WHAT PROCESS DO YOU GO THROUGH IN CREATING A TRACK?
Most of the time I’ll start with the beats, then after that work on the main drop itself.
WHAT INSPIRES YOUR MUSIC? Once I’m happy with that I only then tend to pull a track out of it.
A lot of different sounds inspire me, there are good things in every musical style but I
really prioritise soul, jazz and hip hop. WHICH ARTISTS INFLUENCE YOUR WORK?
Asides from The Prodigy I’m not consciously influenced by any artists in particular but
