FRONTLINES
GAVIN BRYARS - JESUS’ LOVE NEVER FAILED ME YET
A classic piece of pure conceptual music. Recorded in 1972 this is a repeating tape loop of a tramp
singing the eponymous lyrics with Bryars’ orchestration that blooms over time into a huge lush
celebration of the singer’s life and imminent death. Improves with each listening and when I fi rst
heard it I was blown away.
FUNKADELIC - MAGGOT BRAIN
Starting with a crowd chanting ‘think think
it ain’t illegal yet’ this then becomes an eight
minute prog rock work out with Gary Schneider
delivering one of the most moving guitar solos
I’ve ever heard, trust me I’ve cried many times
listening to this.
ALICE COOPER - ELECTED
Political rock of the fi rst order. Bob Ezrin’s
production is immense with the core rock of
Cooper’s band augmented by full string and
brass orchestration. One of nine essential TOTAL KAOS
tracks on the ‘Billion Dollar Babies’ album.
