take a tip – avoid it. Too noisy, too crowded and too
prickly. We did fix an incipient diesel leak on the Land
Rover with “Pratley’s Steel Putty” though, using very
bad Mozambique Brandy as a solvent cleaner!
With four of the ‘Big Five’ under our belt; Buffalo, Lion,
Elephant and Leopard, we plotted a route that would
take us out of the park after a long, right angle course
to Crocodile Bridge Gate. As we had seen Rhino in
the Pilansberg in 2007, we didn’t regard our ‘score’
as a failure and we were not too disappointed. The
day brought other interests though, like a thousand
year old Baobab tree and the Praying Mantis under
the table top then, finally, it was time to head out of
KNP. Africa, however, hadn’t finished with us yet.
With less than a mile to run before the gate and with
nothing more in mind than a ‘comfort break’ before
we left, there, next to the little bridge, we spotted
these two characters. Stretched out on soft sand and
dozing comfortably were our two Rhino – bingo. The
Big Five.
