the day with us. In fact there were too nu-
merous to mention and I didn’t get to meet
some of them. Discosarah and Diane (Mrs
Landysteve1975) made sure the stand was
staffed all day and Lewis – LandyV8 was
helpful everywhere. FreelanderPX54 put in
an appearance while Widget took a break
now and then from his duties in the demon-
stration ring and, by observation, there were
more people congregated around our stand
than any other club stand. A highlight of the
afternoon was the Battle of Britain Flight –
Hurricane, Lancaster and Spitfire – making
no less than three low passes, virtually over
our heads. There were lumps in the throat
after that.
Members were still turning up, even late on – Toppa arrived and parked on the CRAG stand, just ‘down
the way’, joining Paul Humphreys, Bob696 with Karen. All of them forum members, running another
stand. As darkness fell, more forum families and friends gathered around the Tilley Lamp lighted mess
tent to chat and socialise, which encouraged at least one – TonkaMick - to join us having spent the
weekend as guests of Rick and Sarah, even though he has a Zook! When fireworks burst overhead,
the atmosphere was just perfect, with a phenomena I have noticed before taking place as a matter of
course. Forum members who have known each other only via the forum, meet for the first time in
person and become firm friends almost at once.
Sunday was less busy, but at least it allowed those camping and running the stand to see some of the
rest of the show and spend their money! Still more forum friends were made and plans were laid for
‘next time. Now we know it can be done, we know it can be done better and we have ideas for how we
can achieve that. Next year the LRUK Forum will definitely attend the Newark Show and possibly other
shows as well. Obviously we don’t want to rely entirely on ‘the usual suspects’, which often happens
in these matters, but to have a whole team of forum members who can offer their help on a rota basis.
Volunteers please!
I know I have missed mentioning members who were there and I apologise - I am not a reporter! But
on behalf of the whole forum, I must thank Lewis, Steve, Jonathan, Conrad, Chris, Weedy, Sarah, Rick,
Adam, Dave, Lianne, Tom, Luke, Malcom and Mazzy - even Mazzy’s boys and other family members,
for making our first attempt at a public presence, such a successful and enjoyable experience. Roll on
2010.
