Three 100 tonners at Wortwell
Three cows in the Wortwell herd recently achieved 100 tonne status within a short time of each
other.
Wortwell Valerie 53 EX90-3E was something of a herd matriarch, recently leaving us only two
months short of her fifteenth birthday. A daughter of Savagedale Terminator, a Hanoverhill
Inspiration son, and a Broomcourt Purser dam, she started life at our Wortwell site and transferred
later to the herd at Denton after the amalgamation of the two herds. Valerie 53’s dam achieved
RM RML(60) VG88 but Valerie herself surpassed this, achieving her 100 tonnes in twelve lactations,
peaking in her tenth with 10,963 litres at 4.38% fat and 3.03% protein in 305 days. She was
classified EX three times and had daughters by Tesk, Juniper Park, Leadman, Zebo, Brett, Cogent
Lucky and Wortwell Franky. The Lucky is VG85 and the Brett VG85 LP50 and a SP of 11,187
litres at 4.20% fat and 3.53% protein to her name and a smart Bolton daughter. The Leadman
daughter also passed on the quality, achieving VG86 LP50 herself, having a daughter by Besne
Buck who went VG88 and has done LP70 so far, with a very nice Den-K LL Laurin daughter. The
best daughter of Valerie 53 though must be that by Juniper Park. EX90 herself, she gave over 93
tonnes with a best (her sixth) of 14,336 litres 3.89%F 2.86%P in 305 days. Tragically, Wortwell JP
Valerie never had a daughter herself but did breed sons by Pippen, Sinatra and Brad. The Pippen
son, Wortwell Isaac, had eight daughters averaging over 83 points; two VG and six GP. The Sinatra
son’s daughters are now calving, averaging over 77 points with nine out of 13 classified GP so far.
The second hundred tonner, Wortwell Starshine Elizabeth, was indeed a little ‘star’. Sired by
Wortwell Starshine, an Emerald Acres Tonic son out of a Jabot dam, she was so reliable. Calving
first in October ‘98, she had her tenth calving in October ‘08; yes she didn’t slip a month! Elizabeth
started slowly but rose to a sixth of 14,098 litres at 3.19%F 3.09%P in 305 days, collecting EX90 on
her way to 100 tonnes. Elizabeth blessed us with daughters by Addison, Principal, Tugolo, Sinatra
and two by Reece. The Tugolo is already GP82 with an SP first lactation at 5.67% fat, while the
Principal daughter is VG85 with an SP third of 11,732 litres 3.82%F 3.56%P in 305 days. Starshine
Elizabeth’s best daughter is by Addison, currently VG89, who has already produced over 70 tonnes
in seven lactations with a best in her fourth of 13,026 litres 4.21%F 2.91%P in 291 days.
Wortwell Ivann Vera has achieved her 100 tonnes in 10 lactations. Classified EX90, she is still
going strong with a best of 12,917 litres 3.90%F 3.04%P in 290 days in her seventh. Sired by
Iv-Ann Mark Tesk and out of a VG85 Sunny Boy dam, Vera has daughters by Sailor, Pippen,
Meadowlord, Roxell and Reece. The Sailor daughter is GP82 and has LP50 in only four lactations,
while the Pippen is already VG85 and looking good. The Meadowlord was sold and the Roxell
injured herself, but both looked very nice heifers. We look forward to seeing the Reece calve and
perhaps Vera will leave us with more daughters yet!
We are proud of the achievements of Valerie, Elizabeth and Vera and are grateful for the legacy
they have left us.
