Seek First the
Kingdom of God
I make no apology that these observations are not very spiritual but never-the-less, they are true.
Unless we surrender all that we have to Jesus we will never fully gain our salvation. Until it costs us sacrifi cially
we will continue to put our focus on the very thing that we need to give up; no pain, no gain.
Only when we remove all idols from our life will our relationship with Jesus will be unblocked. Yet God is not a
robber. Whatever we lay down for Jesus, God will multiply it back to us.
In the verses above, Jesus refers to our sacrifi ce of close family relationships. He does not suggest that we
irresponsibly walk away from our loved ones; He does mean that we are to love Him fi rst, serving Him fi rst and
loving Him more (Mark 12:30).
If we cannot do this then we do not fully understand what Christ has done for us. Whatever has most value to us,
in effect, becomes our god and God will have no other gods before Him (Exodus 20:3).
To gain the Kingdom of God we must fi rst give up our lives. What is it we hold back that is more valuable than our
inheritance in Christ? Who or what is your god? (Luke 18:18-30)
