Prophon has been designing, developing and manufacturing
loudspeakers, amplifiers and DSPs for the last 27 years – mostly
for the Swedish market. Their products had been successfully
installed on the downstairs R&B and Party dancefloors, so
naturally Netzler wanted to check out the Clubland series
designed to offer high performance, extreme SPL and low
distortion sound system for exclusive nightclubs. Prophon’s
Thomas Löfving carrie d out the demo. “I must say it wa s the
shortest demo in the history of sound,” he says. “Ulf listened for
about four minutes, and then we had a nice lunch, where he told
us he had made up his mind after the first couple of seconds.
“He told us he immediately heard that this system had all he was
looking for, with a controlled but still punchy sub, a high presence
of low mid and an undistorted mid/high with very clear and
present sound.”
The whole sound system was installed, managed and sold by
JNR DJ Service, with Prophon helping out with post-installation
programming and tuning.
Westerberg wanted to have a controlled sound with a high SPL on
the dancefloor but a relative low SPL around the bars and lounges
so that the bartenders and costumers don’t have to scream to
each other to be heard. To achieve this, subs were placed carefully
and given a controlled horn dispersion (80 x 60 degrees).
For the mid/high speakers, one set of CLH81 / CLV215 were flown
in each corner, pointing slightly downwards to the centre of theTheentrancefacadefeatureswhite foliateglass illuminatedbycolour

“In Grand Garbo you can easily achieve 140 dB on the dancefloor
and still have a conversation just a couple of meters away,” says
Löfving.
Westerberg is confident the new look and sound will pay
dividends. “The goal of the redesign was to create the whole
nightclub, including the interior, but also to get more people in and
to spend more money,” he says. “The interior is one thing, but
lighting and sound is the main thing. That is the nightclub.
“Quality wise, as far as the interior and sound and lighting, I would
say it is the best in Sweden. That’s what keeps them coming to
the club,” he continues. “I change the look, put my heart in it and
never buy cheap equipment, and people appreciate that. I like to
think that quality always pays off, not only in financial terms but in
other aspects as well.”
