STAFF WRITER – The OCR Construction Report Special Feature
This building is for the birds.
However, the $5.7 million Advanced Facility for Avian Research at the Univer-
sity of Western Ontario in London is a practical structure, with several special fea-
tures.
“The building has various interesting design aspects,” said project manager Je-
remy Valeriote, project manager with Norlon Builders London Limited, which com-
pleted the two-storey facility in February, based on designs from architects Tillman
Ruth Mocellin Inc., also from London.
“It includes bird trap doors, special epoxy wall and floor coverings and outdoor
aviary and water bird handling rooms,” he said.
