WORD ON THE STREET
Anita Modha is a Designer for Canadian custom wallpaper company Rollout
“The current trends as we have noticed are bold graphics. A lot of people are asking for
murals, instead of the traditional repeat. It really changes from client to client, but we
have noticed the huge focus on street-style graphics and skulls etc.
I would also say that a major trend is wallpaper for kids and interactive papers. We
have a paper that has word bubbles on it, it allows you to leave notes, drawings and
leave your mark on a space. The paper changes over time and really captures moments.”

with statement walls or feature walls being
the key, rather than rooms papered all over.”
“I think clients are looking for wallpaper
designs which create a statement in their
home and colours such as black combined
with hot pink and lime are popular.”
Wallcoverings have also not been spared
from the trend for sustainability and the
drive towards more natural and eco-friendly
products. Bespoke wallpaper designer Tracy
Kendall has noticed the move to natural
products. “There are some really nice natural
products being used – cork, grass, that
type of thing – but also the paper and ink
manufacturers are making their products
more environmentally friendly so it means
we all produce environmentally friendly
papers.”

“Monochrome designs have been
massively popular over the last year and
will continue to be so for months to
come. Also, there has been a strong move
towards unusual, intricate designs that
instantly draw attention and become a
talking point. Wallpaper designs have
evolved massively over the past few years
to include faces, architectural structures
and even detailed historic scenes that
tell a story.”
