Even though the women supported one another, they did
admit to some competition when Kristi came on board. “We were
always looking to see who did better. On tests, we would say, ‘I got
this; what did you get?’ Kristi made us work our buns off!” Loretta
admitted with a laugh.
Throughout their journey, their family, community, and IUS
were behind them the whole way, cheering them on. “We’ve had
a lot of people who were excited for us because they’ve never seen
it happen. IUS has never had three generations graduate, let alone
graduate together,” Trezenda said.
The press coverage the three have received has been
surprising and welcome. With newspaper articles, evening news
reports, and even a spot on The Today Show, Trezenda, Kristi, and
Loretta have become local celebrities. However, Trezenda wants to
make sure the three are being celebrated for the right reasons as she
ponders their accomplishments, “If you set your mind to it, anything
is possible. If you have your mind set to something, just make it
happen.”
