I found Splat Cooking quite by chance, I was actually looking for some funky cake cases for fairy cakes I was to
prepare for the magazine, but I found the
story behind the business fascinating. A Case
Beverley Glock, who started the business
back in 2001, has listened to her own for
children and has managed to fi nd a way Cakes
to combine both her love of cooking and Words:Lynn Nicholsom
her passion to teach children how to cook
and turn it into a fun activity for either
parties or courses.
The company, as all new companies,
started small selling a selection of
products including a DIY cooking kit, but
it was Nigella Lawson mentioning Splat
in her book Feast that put the company
on the map and therefore the fi nancial
investment needed to bring all Beverley’s
ideas to fruition, mainly, encouraging
children to cook.
Beverley shares many of my own ideals,
wanting to show children how food is
grown, where it comes from, how it gets
to us and to learn about the history of
foods. Workshops and classes take place
at Beverley’s cookery school, but you can
also arrange to have a party at your own

However, as previously mentioned I was
looking for cake cases, so take a look at
these and again, look at the website for a
whole host of great accessories for baking
and in particular, the edible glitter! They
were kind enough to send me through
a selection and I loved the fact that the
package came with two cards, both
containing a recipe, in my case Chocolate
Banana Muffi ns and Oat Crunchies, and
having tried them both I really recommend
them!
