I discovered The Lodge whilst researching hotels and accommodation for both vegetarians and vegans, and when I saw the location and the effort that has gone into not only providing its guests with perfect foods,
but also, a very defi nite direction towards a very serious ego ethos, I knew
I had to fi nd out more.
Firstly, Grenada offers history, culture and a diverse background of
scenery from mountains to waterfalls, to the beauty within the ocean with
some of the best scuba diving found within the Caribbean. You can also
visit the historic Georgian town of St George’s, the Plantation Houses,
Forts and of course, here you will fi nd some of the oldest rum factories
in the world!
The Lodge is set in nearly 3 acres and sits 600 feet above sea level and
built to a classically Caribbean style, so it blends in with its surroundings,
and ecologically it is perfect and is able to boast being the only Vegan
accommodation on the island.
The Lodge
Words: Lynn Nicholson
Everything is conserved and this includes collecting all rain water and
storing it into tanks, ensuring that the swimming pool is fi lled with rain
water and then maintained by eco products to protect both you and the
environment. The rain water goes through several fi ltration systems so
that it can be used for cooking and pumped to the rooms throughout The
Lodge. All hot water is provided by solar energy.
As a vegetarian myself, I love the idea of being able to check into a
hotel and not have to worry about meal times, and here the food looks
fantastic.
All fresh foods are grown locally and are both seasonal and organic and
The Lodge is currently in the process of establishing their own organic
fruit and vegetable gardens for the future, so the food will have to travel
even less.
You can enjoy a wonderful breakfast, the option of a lunch and your
evening meal accompanied by a glass or two of vegan wine, and all this
whilst you gaze out across the beautiful scenery of Grenada.
I have to mention the accommodation also. The rooms are stunning,
great colours, a great energy about them and certainly somewhere you
can unwind, relax and take in the atmosphere and do not forget to take
time to gaze up at the stars at night, stars against a completely black
screen are simply stunning.
All the rooms, including bedding, are cleaned with vegan products.
Even if you are not a vegan you should seriously consider this as a holiday
destination, as I know that at the end of your stay you will really be feeling
the benefi ts. You will be mentally charged, physically relaxed and you will
feel your stress has simply slipped away, helped in part by your digestive
system being given a rest!
