Moving
on up
K2 Crawley’s popular
climbing wall will hit
new heights as the
impressive rock
face gets set for
improvements.
The popular climbing wall, one of the
leisure centre’s best known features
and used by Sir Steve Redgrave
(pictured) and Dame Kelly Holmes
during the Channel 5 show Superstars
last year, is a leading venue in the
south east.
Demand continues to grow so the wall
will be extended while new facilities,
including a bouldering and rockfit wall,
will be installed to further develop the
sport and increase the health benefits
at K2 Crawley. This work should be
finished in July.
More car parking
Crawley Council has responded to comments from K2 Crawley’s users by making plans
to extend the car park and provide more spaces.
The leisure centre has surpassed all expectations with 1.3 million people using the
facilities every year. It is also recognised nationally as a leading sporting venue but this
popularity has brought pressures, with insufficient space to park at peak times and
when special events are being held.
Another 75 spaces will be created near the entrance to the car park, subject to planning
permission. This will take the total number of spaces up to 489.
A ‘turning circle’ will also help to move northbound traffic across to the overspill parking
located on the southbound carriageway of the A23 during special events.
If permission is granted, construction is expected to start in July and end in September.
