THE ROYAL WELSH SHOW
The Royal Welsh Show (Mon 20-Thurs 23 July) is the biggest
agricultural show in Britain, but it’s a grand day out for
everyone, not just the local yokels. As well as livestock which
has to be seen to be believed (if you can see the bulls, do
– words cannot describe), expect to see sheep shearing
competitions (Aussie Rules, of course), Welsh celebrities a-
go-go and of course, more free Welsh food than you can shake
a farmer’s crook at. This year will welcome the Kangaroo Kid
and Meirion Owen and his Quack Pack – we’re not entirely
sure what these will involve, but we know they can’t fail to be
entertaining.

NATIONAL BIKE WEEK
SLOW GENIUS
Wales is certainly harbouring some comedy
gold in its hands, and these ladies are no
exception. Slow Genius are taking their
glorious improvised comedy skills to
Edinburgh next month and have already seen
much critical acclaim. However, don’t dismiss
them as just “female humour” (as they put it)
– they are so much more. Lucky for you, they
are holding a fundraising event at Chapter
on Fri 31 July to help them to take Edinburgh
by storm. Five women, fi ve great minds and

this amazing feat, Dale is planning to do it in record
time beating previous record holder David Kurst who
completed it in four years and four months. Dale plans
to slice this record in half. Throughout his journey there

will be no support vehicle or aid on hand. He is leaving
on Fri 14 Aug but now is the time to give your support.
Head to his website and there’s the opportunity to
sponsor Dale. This will be an astonishing achievement,
record or not.

This month sees the return of the ever-popular Skate Jams in
Swansea. The events held around various skate parks in and
around the city are part of the build up to the Elba Summer Sports
Festival held sometime in August. The events are free sessions
offering skaters, bladers and BMX-ers alike the chance to show
off their talents before competing at the annual festival held in
Gowerton’s Elba Sports Complex. Anyone can enter and there is
no strict age restriction. So if you fancy yourself as the next Tony
Hawk, this is your chance to shine.
