ON THE SEA SHORE
The shores of Swansea and the Gower are expecting
something very arty indeed this month as the Sculpture
By The Sea festival snakes its way across the city’s many
beaches. There are workshops run by trained artists who
use sand, pebbles and sticks along with other sustainable
materials to create obscure but beautiful works of art.
SMALL NATION, BIG MUSIC
It has become a popular festival for people of all ages,
After a disastrous 2007 festival due to torrential rain
from the discerning artiste types to the youngest of
amongst other things, the organisers of the Small
children. Either way, it is a great day out and a great way

mistakes. The break continues until the summer of
next year, but all is not lost. Small Nations For Ever, a
round-up
one-day fundraising event being held in Llandovery,
ensures the festival is back in one form or another.
The festival is a celebration of Wales and other small
nations around the globe so it is sure to be an explosion
of culture and diversity. The event takes place on Sat
18 July.

WELSH BOOK OF THE YEAR
The winners of Welsh Book Of The Year have been announced and they are... wait for
it... imaginary drum roll please... Deborah Kay Davies with Grace, Tamar And Laszlo
The Beautiful (Parthian) and William Owen Roberts with Petrograd (Cyhoeddiadau
Barddas). The authors won the English Language and Welsh Language prizes
respectively and the awards ceremony at St David’s Hotel saw them take home a
rather hefty sum of £10,000 each. It marks
the success of not only two brilliant
authors but two equally impressive
publishing houses. And, as always, this
award highlights the sheer quality of work
that is coming out of Wales at the minute.
