r. Kurt Runestad is in his fifth year as an Assistant
Professor and Director of Choral Activities at
Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. At Doane he
conducts (or co-conducts) three of Doane’s four choral
ensembles, including the acclaimed Doane Choir, which
tours nationally and internationally. A Nebraska native,
Runestad graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in music
education from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
In 1993, he earned a Master’s of Arts in Choral Conducting
from the University of Iowa. Runestad taught 10 years in
Minnesota and Iowa, in public schools of all sizes. From
1996 until 2000 he led the large choral program at Roseville Area High School in
Minneapolis/St. Paul, conducting six of the school’s ten choirs. He returned to the
University of Iowa in 2000, completing the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Choral
Conducting in May of 2004. He is a regular book reviewer for The Choral Journal, and
a frequent clinician, arranger, and adjudicator for choirs throughout the Midwest. He
lives in Lincoln, Nebraska with his wife Carly and their daughter, Avery.
WiLLiAM cARPenTeR
P
ianist and teacher Bill Carpenter runs a private music
teaching and recording studio in Lincoln, Nebraska,
where he grew up studying piano with Beth Miller
Harrod. He went on to receive the Bachelor of Music degree Magna cum Laude from
the Eastman School of Music, where he was winner of the Ethel Lannin Prize for
outstanding achievement in piano, and the Master of Music from the University of
Notre Dame. After teaching piano and accompanying extensively for both Notre
Dame and the University of New Orleans he returned to his native Lincoln as a free-
lance performer and independent teacher. He has taught part-time for the University
of Nebraska-Lincoln and Union College and is a member of Lincoln Suzuki Talent
Education Incorporated. He has toured with the Doane Choir, the Notre Dame
Chorale, the UNO Chorale and the Paul Mesner Puppets.
