from our daily lives, as
if we were away on a
superior vacation. For
many reasons more
than the state of our
economy right now, the
timing may be just right to make this summer’s fun be a staycation. Make
memories right here, and don’t forget to take pictures of all the merriment
- even though you are really just enjoying our handsome home isle.
Just leave the instructions on the knob! Post signs of daily scheduled events and
meals that please all palates to keep the children cheerful, too. For extra entertain-
ment, families may also want to preplan some hidden treasure maps with directions.
Food and fun for all can include a clambake with steamers, lobsters, corn, and other
tasty crustacean treats! Think about having a working blender, a full propane tank
for the grill, tuned up bikes, and possibly a season pass to local beaches and parks to
keep things humming right along. Pack your more than mini bar with frozen slushy
drinks, chocolates, and yummies you’d probably indulge in on any vacation. Then,
experience a hidden bike trail along the island, or the culture and feel of a local
farmer’s market. Water sports are truly exceptional this time of year, and can be
found everywhere on Long Island, if that‘s your thing. Even try cruising, flying or
sky diving to really go all out at home!
Be prepared for inclement weather, too. Canoeing, fishing, and boating are
all easily planned for a summer staycation on Long Island, but if it does rain you
can find a plethora of great museums, local theaters, galleries, antique and hobby
outlets for rainy day amusement. Renting a boat of your own, or taking a fishing trip
is easily procurable also, and could still be fun if it‘s cloudy. An evening plan may
